Shankar directorial 2.0 released to packed houses on Thursday, November 29, worldwide. The film is a technical marvel like all of Shankar’s previous ventures but 2.0 is one step ahead of the others as the director had introduced a new sound format called 4D SRL.

Wondering what it is? Well, SRL is the abbreviation for Shankar, Resul, Lyca!

During the film's teaser launch, Shankar was quoted as saying, “When I created the story of 2.0, just like the 3D effect bringing out the best visuals, I wanted to get the best possible sound for my film. So we have created a new format called 4D SRL.”

While exploring what 4D is, sources tell TNM, "In the regular 3D sound technology while watching a movie in a theater, you would find speakers on both the sides of you or even above you. But when it comes to 4D sound, you will find speakers under your seat too. You will have about 500+ outputs in 4D. It gets incorporated with the 3D visuals and gives the audience a real-time experience”

The Oscar-winning music composer Resul Pookutty, who had worked on this technology tirelessly prior to the release had tweeted, "Guys the first ever #SRL4DSound especially created for the film #2PointO is being mastered as we speak! #HistoricMomentForIndianCinema Happy and proud, a truly #MakeInIndia International Film. Enjoy in cinemas on Nov.29th..Many sleepless nights fruition today. Thank U all."

It may be noted here that only two theaters in Tamil Nadu have been equipped to handle this technology. Prior to the film's release, theatres in Chennai like Sathyam cinemas, GK cinemas, and Rohini Silverscreens had equipped a few of their screens to give the audience "the complete experience."

Directed by Shankar, the film stars Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson as the lead pair with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar playing the baddie. Those in the supporting roles include Sudhanshu Pandey, Adil Hussain, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and Riyaz Khan.

Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under his banner Lyca Productions, 2.0 is made on a massive budget of over Rs 500 crores. The film’s technical crew comprises AR Rahman for songs with the background score done by himself and Qutub-E-Kripa, Nirav Shah for camera and Anthony for editing.
