Ever since the Darshan starrer Kurukshetra went on the floors, there have been speculations on who would play his lead pair in it. In Kurukshetra, Darshan plays Duryodhana and the story is told from his point of view. Banumathi is Duryodhana’s wife and has a pivotal role to play in the movie. Therefore, movie buffs were keen to know who would bag the role.

While it was reported much earlier that Regina Cassandra is in the fray for the role, sources in the know have denied it. And it has been confirmed that Remya Nambeesan has been brought on board to play Banumathi in Duryodhana. It may be mentioned that Darshan had said that he had no role in choosing in his leading lady and had left the decision to the film’s director Naganna. Remya Nambeesan’s last Kannada movie was the Ganesh starrer Style King.

The shooting of Kurukshetra began last month and is progressing steadily at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad where extravagant sets have been erected for the purpose. The entire Kurukshetra team has been camping there and will be wrapping up the shoot in a couple of months. Reports are that the film will be out in the theatres for Sankaranthi next year.

Written by JK Bharavi, the film is being directed by Naganna and produced by Muni Ratna under banner KCN Movies. Kurukshetra, made on a budget of Rs 60 crores, has an ensemble of stars in the cast including Darshan, V Ravichandran, Ambarish, Arjun Sarja, Pragya Jaiswal, Sneha, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Remya Nambeesan. V Harikrishna is setting the tunes for this film with Jay Vincent cranking the camera and Jo Ni Harsha roped in for editing. Being Darshan’s 50th film, expectations are high for this period film.
