The News Minute | January 20, 2015 | 4.17 pm IST Even as mining baron G Janardhan Reddy’s supporters began to celebrate across the state, the Karnataka BJP is playing it safe as it became clear that the former would be released in the next few days. Reddy has been imprisoned for the last three years and was granted bail only on Tuesday, in the last of the eight cases against him for illegal mining. He had obtained bail in all the other cases during the last year.  The Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Reddy, after the CBI said it had no objections to granting him bail as the investigation into the Obalapuram Mining Company case was over, and chargesheet filed. However, asked for Reddy’s role in the party, Joshi chose not to give a clear answer, saying that the party would take a decision in the coming days. BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje, who is a close associate of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, told the media said that it was good that Reddy would be released, but refused to be drawn into further discussion of the latter’s political career. Yeddyurappa too had been jailed and spent some time at the Bangalore Central Jail after he surrendered before a Special Lokayukta court in Bengaluru. The Lokayukta had indicted him in a case of illegal mining. Tweet
