Malayalam superstar Nivin Pauly’s last release, ‘Action Hero Biju’, was an episodic film that chronicled the life of a policeman with honesty and humour. In a case of life imitating art, one of Biju’s adventures has become a reality for the Trivandrum police. Remember the episode when a cop from Biju’s station loses his wireless to a drunk? Well, something similar has happened to the City Police in Trivandrum!

On 31st July, Sunday, an inspector on night duty had just finished speaking through the wireless around 11.15 pm, when suddenly, a young girl’s voice was heard. She’s said to have spoken the code words, ‘Control Cobra’ that the Commissioner of Police, G.Sparjan Kumar, uses before he communicates with his colleagues. The girl’s voice could be heard for about 30 seconds.

The police have two theories about what could have happened. The first is that last year, a policeman lost his wireless when he was on duty during a Legislative Assembly session and that the set could have been found and misused by somebody. The second is that many in the force take the wireless home and it could have been a family member who spoke through the wireless, perhaps as a joke.

The wireless sets newly introduced in the force can be traced easily but many still use the old sets that are difficult to find if misplaced or lost. As of now, the police are yet to figure out from which wireless set the voice emerged. They have recorded the voice and are investigating the incident. All the best to the real life action heroes to crack the mystery and make a recovery!
