Director Ranjith Sankar and actor Jayasurya, who have brought out a number of films together in Malayalam, are ready to work on another. Pretham 2, the sequel to their film Pretham, is expected to come to the theatres as a Christmas release.

Confirming this, Ranjith Sankar had posted on his Twitter handle a few days ago: “3 days to Pretham 2 shoot. The more you make movies the more prepared you get it seems:) We are ready..!! fun, friendship, youth, suspense, mentalism, horror and the ghost..:) See you all in theatres this X Mas!!”

The film will have Jayasurya playing the male lead with Saniya Iyappan and Durga Krishna playing the heroines.

Pretham, that was released a couple of years ago, had been a box office hit. It revolved around the lives of three young men (Aju Varghese, Sharaf U Dheen, and Govind Pamasoorya) who are disturbed by paranormal activities and approach a mentalist (Jayasurya).

Ranjith and Jayasurya have a good track record having worked together in films such as Punyalan Agarbattis (2013), Su.. Su... Sudhi Vathmeekam (2015), Pretham (2016), Punyalan Private Limited (2017) and Njan Marykutty (2018).

Their last film together – Njan Marykutty – had won a lot of appreciation. Jayasurya had played a trans woman, going through the struggles that the transgender community in Kerala goes through even today. The director and the actor have reportedly spoken to transgender persons to learn their experience before making the film. When it was released, there was a lot of appreciation from members of the transgender community who are mostly depicted in a poor light in mainstream cinema.

Njan Marykutty was bankrolled jointly by Ranjith and Jayasurya under the banner Dreams and Beyond. Music for the film was scored by Anand Madhusoodhanan and the camera was handled by Vishnu Narayanan with V. Saajan doing the editing.
