Rakul Preet Singh has become controversy’s favourite child for her smoking scene in the teaser of the upcoming film Manmadhudu 2. Ever since the teaser was released, she has been subjected to trolling by netizens.

While she had maintained a stoic silence over this issue, Rakul finally opened up in an interview to Pinkvilla.com and gave a befitting reply. She said, “I don't really get bothered by trolls. I think logo ka kaam hai kehna, kuch toh log kahenge. We are playing characters.”

Reacting to the allegation that she is promoting smoking, Rakul said, “People should disassociate to what we are playing onscreen is different and it is a story of that one person... we are not putting the entire girl clan into girls not showing in the right way. That's not happening.”

She went on to add, “It is that one character Avantika that smokes and it's her story. Once you see the film, people will know why she does. Treat it like the character...For me, it was something different. I really don't pay attention to trolls...there are bigger and better things to do.”

Manmadhudu 2, which has Nagarjuna and Rakul in the lead roles, is being directed by Rahul Ravindran of Chi La Sow fame. Sources in the know say that Nagarjuna chose Rahul Ravindran to wield the megaphone for the sequel after he was impressed with the director’s debut film Chi La Sow

Those in the supporting roles include Vennela Kishore, Rao Ramesh, Nassar, Lakshmi, Devadarshini, Jhansi, etc. Chaithan Bharadwaj is composing music for this romantic comedy. Nag’s daughter-in-law Samantha Akkineni will be making a guest appearance in it and has shot for her portions already. The film is being bankrolled jointly by Nag’s Manam enterprises and P Kiran’s Anandi Art Creations.
