The News Minute | August 5, 2014 | 11:22 am ISTWhen Raju, the Indian elephant who was kept in captivity for 50 years, was rescued last month, he shed tears of liberation and relief- from the spiked shackles that tore into his flesh to the constant abuse and beatings. According to a report in Daily Mail, earlier Raju was "forced to hold out his trunk and beg for a few coins from passers-by – surviving only on plastic and paper for food". Wildlife SOS rescued Raju from the torture in Uttar Pradesh. Raju's heart-rending story of a life in bonds and agony soon spread across the world, touching people to the core and bring tears to many of those eyes. Read our earlier report: Love, sympathy and hope pours in for Raju the elephant on FacebookBut now Raju is a free being, and he seems to be enjoying every bit of the freedom that he deserves.
