The debacle of Kochadaiiyaan, India’s first photo-realistic, motion capture project still seems to be haunting superstar Rajinikanth. Although Rajinikanth’s films have a huge fan following in Telugu, the release of his upcoming film Kabali, in which he plays an ageing gangster, in Telugu, looks doubtful as a complaint regarding heavy losses incurred by distributors is still pending in the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce.

Dubbed as Vikramasimha in Telugu, Soundarya Rajinikanth-directed Kochadaiiyaan released amid high expectations in 2014 and tanked. According to a source, a complaint regarding the heavy losses incurred by financiers and distributors of the film is yet to be closed. The film was distributed by Sobhan Babu of Lakshmi Ganapathi Films, and they were assured Rs. 7 crore, in case of loss. However, when the film bombed, the guaranteed amount was not settled, forcing the distributor to file a complaint. Since the complaint is still pending, sources say that it might stop the makers of Kabali from releasing their film in June.

Meanwhile, the Kabali teaser has clocked over 8 million views in just two days. The film also stars Radhika Apte, as Rajinikanth’s wife, besides Dinesh, Kalaiarasan, Kishore and Dhansikaa in important roles.
