The Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 which released in India last year will now travel all the way to China. The film is gearing up for its premiere on June 28 followed by a grand release on July 12.
The film will release in 58,000 screens in the country, tweeted AR Rahman, its music composer.

In 2018, Lyca, the film’s producer had announced that 2.0 would most likely hit the screens in China later in 2019 association with HY Media. It was touted to be the widest 3D release for any foreign language film in history.
2.0 was Shankar’s science-fiction extravaganza that released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, and had the widest release for an Indian film in 10,500 screens at that time. The movie marked the return of Rajinikanth as scientist Vaseegaran and Chitti, the robot. He was also seen playing the titular character 2.0, the reloaded version of Chitti.
It is interesting to note that a good number of Indian films have found a great market in China with Aamir Khan’s Dangal which ranks at number 36 on the top 50 highest-grossing films in Chinese history.
Some of the other Indian films that did well in China include SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, Hindi Medium, Padman, and Secret Superstar.
In August last year, it was announced that China’s HGC Entertainment was planning on dubbing and releasing Vijay’s Mersal in Mandarin. The distribution house HGC happens to be one of China's oldest indie distributors and have released Dhoom 3, The Mechanic and Hellboy 3 in the past.
In July 2018, director Ram’s Peranbu was screened at Shanghai International Film Festival with plans to release it later in the country. The film, however, is yet to find a release in the country.
Ajith’s upcoming film, Nerkonda Paarvai, a remake of the hit Hindi flick Pink, according to sources from the team, might release in China in November or December this year. However, the makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the China release.
