The shooting of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Petta has been progressing in different locations in North India in places like Lucknow and Darjeeling. According to latest reports surfacing about the film, the team will be stationed in Varanasi for the next four weeks where some important portions will be canned.

Directed by Karthik Subburaj, Petta is being bankrolled by Kalanidhi Maran under his banner Sun Pictures. The film has Vijay Sethupathi playing an important role and this is the first time he is sharing the screen space with Rajinikanth.

On Rajini’s role in the film, we hear that he plays a professor and a vigilante. While he would be appearing as a professor during the daytime, he will be the vigilante during the nights to safeguard the education institution he works at.

In the star cast of this film are Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Megha Akash, Bobby Simha and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the tunes for this gangster actioner with Tirru cranking the camera and Vivek Harshan being in charge of the editing.

The rest of the technical crew include Peter Hein from stunt choreography, Suresh Selvarajan for production designing, Kunal Rajan as sound designer, Niharika Khan and Praveen Raja as costume designers, and Baba Bhaskar and Sheriff for dance choreography. Petta will also require a lot of computer graphics for which Prime Focus has been signed up to take care of its VFX.

The shooting of this film is happening at a good pace with plans to release it for Pongal next year. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s yet another film, 2.0 is gearing up for release in November this year. S Shankar is directing this magnum opus that features Akshay Kumar as the villain.

Apparently,  the industry grapevine is that Rajinikanth’s next project is most likely with Murugadoss and it could very well be his last film before he hangs up his boots to concentrate on his political career.
