Filmmaker AR Murugadoss, whose last outing was Vijay’s Sarkar, is expected to team up with Rajinikanth next. The news first emerged in 2017 when the Ghajini filmmaker revealed in a media interaction that he has a project with Rajinikanth in the pipeline.

He revealed that he has already narrated the script to Thalaivar and has even got his nod. After his films, Kaala, 2.0 and Petta hit the screens, my project will start.

It’ll be an interesting combination to watch out for as the two will be joining hands for the first time. While there’s neither an official confirmation from Murugadoss nor Rajinikanth since the interview, reports about their collaboration have resurfaced now.

According to the industry grapevine, things are finally falling in place for Murugadoss’s project with Rajinikanth. Fresh reports suggest that the yet-untitled project will go on the floors from March.

Last seen playing a hostel warden with a violent past in Petta, it is being rumoured that Rajinikanth will be playing a leader in Murugadoss’s film. To be bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the superstar is said to have allocated 90 days for the project.

The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. There are rumours doing the rounds that Keerthy Suresh is being considered as the leading lady for the project. Keerthy had worked with Murugadoss in Sarkar, in which she played Vijay’s pair.

Originally, the project was supposed to be produced by Sun Pictures. However, they pulled out of the project after their previous outing with Murugadoss, Sarkar, was mired in controversy. Subsequently, Lyca Productions took over the reins of the project. While Lyca had produced Rajinikanth’s 2.0, they ventured into production with Murugadoss’s Kaththi.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's last outing  Petta recently completed 25 successful days in theaters and the film has grossed close to Rs 220 crore worldwide from all its versions together.
