Following its terrific run domestically as well as in major international markets, superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is now eyeing a big release in China. According to a statement release by Lyca Productions, 2.0 is said to release in China in May 2019 in a staggering 56,000 screens and out of which 47,000 screens will release the film in 3D format. The makers have revealed that they will release the film in China in association with HY Media. If indeed 2.0 manages to release in said number of screens, it will be the widest 3D release for any foreign language film in history.

Meanwhile, the Shankar-directed science-fiction extravaganza has set the cash registers on fire as it has grossed over Rs 450 crore worldwide and is still going strong as it completes its first week of run in cinemas. The film, which was released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, had the widest release for an Indian film in 10,500 screens. The movie marked the return of Rajinikanth as scientist Vaseegaran and Chitti, the robot. He was also seen playing the titular character 2.0, the reloaded version of Chitti.

Akshay Kumar, who debuted in the role of an antagonist in Southern cinema, was seen playing an ornithologist who uses the fifth force to wreak havoc and take revenge when he loses his fight to telecom companies while trying to save birds from dying from the emission of mobile towers.

According to trade pundits, 2.0 is doing exceptionally well in Hindi vis-à-vis Tamil and Telugu. In Hindi, it has already netted over Rs 100 crore in its opening weekend and is believed to enter the Rs 200 crore club soon.
