Rajinikanth undoubtedly enjoys a huge fan following across the world. His latest release, Kaala, opened to packed houses on June 7, but its box office performance deteriorated and the film bombed at the box office. It may be mentioned here that director Pa Ranjith and Rajinikanth had teamed up for Kabali earlier and the film turned out to be a massive success at the box office.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has started shooting for his next with director Karthik Subbaraj. He is currently camping in Darjeeling where a 30-day long schedule is planned. The crew will shoot portions involving Rajinikanth in this schedule and rest of the cast will join later.

West Bengal’s tourism minister Goutam Deb met Rajinikanth at the private resort in Kurseong where he is staying. Speaking to reporters in Darjeeling after the meeting, Rajinikanth said, “By god’s grace Kaala is doing very well all over India and abroad. I will be in Darjeeling and shoot for 30 days here.”

He further added, “The land of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore and Subash Chandra Bose has mesmerised me. I am really happy to meet such lovely people, good and kind-hearted people. There are lots of beautiful locations here which are not explored. I hope, with this film, the whole country will know this place and explore the region.”

Bankrolled by Sun Pictures, the yet-untitled film also stars Vijay Sethupathi in a pivotal role and marks the first time collaboration of Rajinikanth and Subbaraj. The film has an ensemble cast, including Bobby Simha, Munishkanth, Yogi Babu and Sanath.

Kaala, which has Rajinikanth playing the title role, grossed Rs 112.2 crore worldwide in the first weekend. According to trade sources, the film’s weekend collection in Tamil Nadu stands at Rs 44.8 crore and in Chennai it had a good opening, managing to gross Rs 6.64 crore. The Andhra Pradesh and Nizam collection amounted to Rs 11 crore and Kerala it grossed Rs 4 crore.

Bankrolled by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films, Kaala has a bevy of stars in the cast including Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Aruldoss, Easwari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Sukanya and Aravind Akash. Santosh Narayanan is the music composer for this flick with G Murali being the cameraman and A Sreekar Prasad the editor.
