As Rajinikanth’s Kaala hit screens worldwide on Thursday, reports have emerged that the 67-year-old star is in no mood to rest. Having already confirmed that he is teaming up next with Karthik Subbaraj, it is believed that the film’s regular shooting will commence from this month end in Dehradun.

While some reports suggest that Rajinikanth has already left for Dehradun to join the crew of the film, reliable sources close to him have quashed these rumours. The film marks the first time collaboration of Rajinikanth and Subbaraj, whose last release was the Prabhudeva-starrer Mercury, a silent film.

The yet-untitled film also stars Vijay Sethupathi in a pivotal role. Last week, there were reports that Simran and Bobby Simha have been signed on for the project. While an official confirmation is awaited, the news about them being signed is making waves. Even before this casting could be verified, fresh reports have emerged that Megha Akash, who is making her acting debut opposite Dhanush in Enai Noki Paayum Thota, has been signed for the project. The makers are yet to officially confirm these reports too. Anirudh Ravichander has been finalised to compose the music for the film.

On teaming up with Rajinikanth, Subbaraj said in a chat with Sun TV recently: “Even though I’ve made four films in my career so far, my fascination with cinema started because of Superstar Rajinikanth sir. To get to direct him is the best moment of my life,” adding that he plans to go on the floors in the next two months and wrap up the project this year itself.

Asked if the project would be as ambitious as Sun Pictures’ production Enthiran in terms of scale, Subbaraj said that his film will be quite different from Enthiran. “It’ll be a proper Rajini film,” he said. He also said he is aware that collaborating with the Superstar would come with its set of expectations and major responsibility. “I see it as an enjoyable challenge.”
