The relentless rains since Sunday night have created havoc in Anantapur and other districts of Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh. All major junctions and main roads were flooded with rainwater, causing inconvenience to the public.

Majority of drains in the city were blocked due to the heavy showers, on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The continuous rains have disrupted normal life.

Officials of Anantapur Municipal Corporation, who are clearing blocked drains, are neglecting residential colonies which are witnessing heavy flow of water.  

The sanitation and public health wing is closely monitoring the situation, with directions from the municipal commissioner and special teams are clearing the blocked drainages.  "Public Works Department and municipal, police departments are clearing massive blockades," said PVVS Murthy, Municipal Commissioner, Anantapuram.

He added that "Several houses which were in inclined areas such as Umanagar, Ramnagar,Sai Nagar have seen water getting into the houses. We are reaching out to the people on phone, we are constantly alerting the people on the situation.”

Transport services between Ballari and Hyderabad have reported been affected, local media reported.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad authorities have said, "A deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal intensified the rainfall which may continue to fall heavily".

According to officials, "Anantapuram witnessed 8.5cm rainfall, while Chittoor 13cm, Kadapa-Kadiri 7cm".

Meanwhile, reports suggests that Mayor Swarupa and state minister Paritala Sunita, have visited the rain affected areas and promised to provide the necessary facilities.
