Rainfall throughout the weekend has been forecast for Bengaluru, and a yellow warning has been issued for many parts of south-interior Karnataka including Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Ramanagaram. According to the bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, the capital city will see generally cloudy weather, and is very likely to experience rain and thundershowers on May 22 and May 23.

On Friday, Bengaluru had received 21mm rainfall until 5.30 pm, and HAL airport had recorded 22.8 mm rainfall. No water logging or tree felling complaint was recorded by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) war room across the city till 7 pm.

According to the IMD, a yellow warning is issued when the rainfall is expected to range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in a span of 24 hours.

A report in TNIE quoted the Bengaluru Director-in-charge of IMD, CS Patil, saying that a yellow warning was issued across Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Kolar, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar districts, and the surrounding areas for May 22 and 23. He explained that the rainfall was caused because of the formation of the east-west shear zone (monsoon turbulence) over south interior Karnataka.

Bengaluru is likely to receive rain in the next two days, he was quoted saying in another report. Patil also mentioned that coastal Karnataka is expected to experience rains by May 25. While isolated parts of north interior Karnataka will experience isolated rainfall, south interior Karnataka will likely experience fairly widespread rainfall till May 23, he observed. There will likely be a temporary decrease in rainfall, he was quoted saying.

IMD had earlier predicted rains and thunderstorms in most places over coastal Karnataka as well as over many locations over south interior Karnataka and in isolated places over North Interior Karnataka. It had also issued yellow warning for Bengaluru Urban, Kolar, Mysuru, Chikkaballapura, Chamarajanagar, and Rural, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.
