Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will visit the family of snakebite victim Shehla Sherin, a school student who passed away last month, after being bitten by a snake in her classroom in Wayanad, Kerala. The Wayanad MP will be starting a four-day visit to his parliamentary constituency in Kerala on December 5. He will return to Delhi on December 8.

He would be reaching Kozhikode on December 4 and his official programme would start on December 5, Rahul Gandhi's office said.

He will also inaugurate a bus stand named after Indira Gandhi and a shopping complex attached to it in Edakkara, launch a slew of development projects, including a grama panchayat project in Kodenchery.

He is scheduled to visit the house of late Congress leader MI Shanavas and attend a remembrance meeting for him held as part of his first death anniversary. Rahul Gandhi will also meet newly trained volunteers of disaster management at Zila Panchayat auditorium, Kalpetta.

Rahul Gandhi has been visiting Wayanad quite often and is now trying to visit his constituency once a month. He had also visited his constituency during the floods and sent relief material.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier condoled Shehla's death in a letter he wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. "One of the oldest high schools in Sulthan Bathery, Sarvajana Higher Secondary School's crumbling infrastructure requires the urgent attention of the state government. The absence of a conducive learning environment demoralises students and parents alike," Rahul said in the letter.

"I also urge the government to formulate a time-bound action plan for infrastructure upgradation of Sarvajana HSS, and other public schools in Wayanad. I will also be pleased to provide the requisite support for the upgradation of this school under MPLADS,” Rahul wrote.
