On Sunday, Rohith hanged himself from a ceiling fan in one of his friends’ hostel rooms. He had been expelled from the NRS Hostel on December 16 along with four other students.

Since then, they were sleeping in the open on the campus itself, and were later joined by other protesting students as well.

Currently, there are protests in Hyderabad Central University, with students and even some lecturers demanding that Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao should resign.

Appa Rao has been booked along with five others including union labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya for abetting Rohith’s suicide.

Following his death, many major political parties of the region and country had visited the university campus and reap political dividends out of the tragedy.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi had said that the government should ensure that the family is compensated for the future that he would have given them if he were alive.

There were media reports which claimed that the Union Ministry of HRD wrote five letters to the university over the alleged assault of ABVP activist Nandanam Susheel Kumar, which only led to his suspension and suicide.
