Damayanthi, set in the 1980s, is directed and produced by Navarasan. In this movie, which is touted to be heroine-centric, Radhika Kumaraswamy will appear in three different get-ups and she has reportedly done a lot of homework for her character. This Kannada film will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, considering the universal appeal of the subject.

The film’s director-producer Navarasan told Cinema Express in an interview, “Such types of films are doing well these days. So I think this is the best time to make a film like this. I’m quite confident that the film has all the necessary elements to cater to the national audience. People want to see something new. This film is an attempt to satisfy that need.”

As Damayanthi is set in a different time period, its VFK work took a few months to be completed, we hear. The film is now scheduled for release on September 20. Besides Radhika in the title role, Damayanthi also stars Bhajarangi Loki, Anusha Ravi, Vishal’s dad GK Reddy, Raj Bahadhur, Sadhu Kokila and Tabla Nani in important roles. The film has been shot in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mysore and parts of Kerala.

Besides Damayanthi, Radhika also has Bhairadevi in her kitty. The film will be helmed by director Srijai of RX Soori fame, which had Duniya Vijay in the lead. Bhairadevi has Ramesh Aravind playing the male lead. With both Ramesh Aravind as well as Radhika Kumaraswamy being well-known names in both the Tamil and Telugu film circuits, Bhairadevi will be made in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu languages, say sources. Apart from Ramesh Aravind and Radhika, the film will also feature Anu Prabhakar and Skanda Ashok in the star cast. Sources close to the film unit say that Bhairadevi will be a thriller but a complete family entertainer.
