Following the release of the Tamil web series Suzhal, filmmaker duo Pushkar and Gayatri are gearing up for the release of their next series, Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie. Like Suzhal, the webseries will be premiering on over-the-top (OTT) platform Amazon Prime Video. The ace filmmaker duo’s last series, Suzhal: The Vortex, featured actor Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead, as well as Kathir, Sriya Reddy and Radhakrishnan Parthiban in significant roles.

Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie has been produced by Pushkar and Gayatri under their banner, Wallwatcher Films, and was created by Andrew Louis. The eight-episode thriller will be streaming in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada from December 2. A poster from the series, featuring actor SJ Suryah as a police officer, was released on Thursday, November 17.

The title, ‘Vadhandhi’, translates to “rumours”. The show will focus on the life of Velonie, essayed by debutante Sanjana, who tells stories riddled with rumours. In a statement released by the makers on November 17, they revealed that the series will feature SJ Suryah as a troubled and determined cop who is caught in a web of lies but is bent on finding the truth. The ensemble cast includes actors Laila, M Nasser, Vivek Prasanna, Kumaran, and Smruthi Venkat in pivotal roles.

Laila will also be seen in the Tamil film Sardar, co-starring Karthi, will release on October 21 this year. The film marks Laila’s comeback to cinema after 16 years.

Speaking about the series, Pushkar and Gayatri, who are creative producers of the series, said a press statement, “With the audience today becoming more mindful about what they want to watch, we truly believe that it is important to create content that is different, unique, and riveting. Crime as a genre is something that brings out the art of storytelling in its most raw and natural form.”

They also added that the story of Vadhandi will prod audiences to introspect about the main theme. “With Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie, our intent is to completely capture the audiences’ imagination, and question societal biases. This story will not only entertain audiences, but will also make them ponder, long after the credits roll. It was wonderful collaborating with writer-director-creator Andrew Louis, with whom we shared a common vision, to create this enthralling crime thriller,” they said.
