A group of people belonging to the Arappor Iyakkam based in Chennai were detained on Wednesday evening after they tore down posters and hoardings of Jayalalithaa adorning the streets of Chennai ahead of the AIADMK General body meet which was held on Thursday morning.

The entire stretch from Royappetah to Thiruvanmiyur was decked up with big banners and flexi-boards of AIADMK ahead of executive committee meeting at the Sri Ramachandra Medical Science and Research Centre’s grounds in Thiruvanmiyur.

Chandra Mohan, member of a group said, “I tried to remove banners in Thiruvanmiyur and I was immediately taken into police custody and dropped at OMR. We tried to register a police complaint at Abiramapuram police station and Royapettah police station. The case has been registered at Royapettah police station but the Abiramapuram police station refused to file a complaint,” he said.

The group however did not back down and are continuing their protest against the posters.
