Priyanka Chopra had produced the Marathi movie Ventilator in 2016 which did well at the box office. The film is about a family patriarch slipping into coma right before a festival and how the family reacts to it.  

Madhu Chopra, Priyanka’s mother, who heads Purple Pebbles Pictures that produced Ventilator, was quoted by Deccan Chronicle as saying, “Yes, we just signed a contract for the remake of Ventilator in Malayalam, and Priyanka will be co-producing it.”

Ventilator has been written and directed by Rajesh Mapuskar with Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi, Sulabha Arya and Sukanya Kulkarni-Mone, Viju Khote, Kirti Adarkar, Achyut Potdar, Usha Nadkarni, Swati Chitnis, Deepak Shirke and Rahul Solapurkar playing pivotal roles.

The film is all about the family members visiting the patriarch at the hospital and evoking some emotional moments. According to the storyline, he slips into coma right before Ganesh Chathurthi and his demise on the auspicious day would mean there would be no celebrations. With each family member having their own reason to celebrate the festival, they visit him at the hospital. praying for his speedy recovery.

Rohan Gokhale and Rohan Pradhan have composed music for this film with Savita Singh handling the camera and Rameshwar S. Bhagat editing it. Released on 4th November last year, the film had collected Rs. 25 crores at the box office with its US collections estimated to be around $3.9 million.

On remaking the film in Malayalam, Madhu Chopra said that there is a huge potential in the regional market, which prompted the production house to consider a remake.
