A private employee was shot at by an unidentified person at Shamshabad in Hyderabad on Monday evening.

"Unknown person fired at one Mr Prasad, who is an employee in online money transfer (company)," Shamshabad DCP AR Srinivas said.

The incident happened at a building in which several small offices were located, he said.

The victim, Prasad, 30, is an employee of Geosansar banking services company's Katedan branch, affiliated to the SBI's Katedan branch. According to Shamshabad DCP AR Srinivas, Geosansar staff collect small cash deposits from people and send it to the bank accounts, specified by the customers, on behalf of SBI.

At around 3 pm on Monday, the assailant visited the cash collection counter, manned by Prasad.

"The customer gave Rs 500 to Prasad to deposit in a particular bank account. After Prasad completed the formalities in the computer and deposited the money, the customer pulled out a country made firearm from his pocket and shot Prasad from a close range....One single round entered Prasad's body right below his chest. The round did not exit from the body. The doctors will have to surgically remove it. Prasad's condition is said to be out of danger," the DCP told TOI.

The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained and the police are on the lookout for the assailant.
