After the success of Nammal Thammil and Krithyam, director Viji Thampi and actor Prithviraj are teaming up for a mega budget period flick. Touted to be a historical film based on the life of Velu Thampi Dalawa, the Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore from 1802 – 09, it will have Prithviraj in the title role. According to the director, Velu Thampi Dalawa was one of the first to rebel against the British rule.

It is a well researched film, say sources, which explains why the director has not made a film for the last four years.

Apparently, he was working on this period flick, gathering all the details for the story. The film will be scripted by Renji Panicker. Sources in tinsel town say that with Prithviraj busy with a slew of movies in his kitty, this untitled film will be out in theatres in 2019.

Viji Thampi made his directorial debut in 1988 with David David Mr. David and has directed a number of films since then. Some of his directorials include the Mammootty starrer Soorya Manasam, Manoj K Jayan’s Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu, Suresh Gopi’s Satyamev Jayate, and Prithviraj’s Nammal Thammil. The director’s last release was the Dileep starrer Nadodi Mannan that released in 2013.

On the other hand, Prithviraj’s last release was Tiyaan which did well at the box office. His Adam Joan has gone into post production mode and he has a number of films - Vimanam, My Story, Karnan, Ranam and Aadu Jeevitham - in different stages of production.

With the announcement that Viji Thampi and Prithviraj will be teaming up for a film again, fans expect that they would score a hat trick at the box office.
