Just days after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh arrested the seventh suspect in the case, officials have now arrested two more persons in connection with the case.

Amith Baddi (27) and Ganesh Miskin (27), residents of Hubballi were produced in the 3rd additional chief metropolitan magistrate court on Monday and have been remanded to police custody up to August 6.

This takes the total number of arrests in the case up to 9.

The arrest was made based on the interrogation of the seventh suspect arrested in the case - Mohan Nayak, a resident of Sullia in Dakshina Kannada.

Police sources however were tight-lipped about the alleged role of Amith and Ganesh in the plot to kill journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot in cold blood outside her residence in Bengaluru on September 5 2017. Her death sparked nationwide outrage and protests and the SIT soon took over the case appealing to the public for any information on the murder.

The SIT team probing the case first arrested KT Naveen Kumar, a resident of Maddur in Mandya, who was reportedly providing logistical support in the murder plot. The SIT  team has also arrested Sujeet Kumar alias Praveen, an activist of the Sanatan Sanstha in Mangaluru, Amol Kale alias Bhaisab, an activist of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti from Maharashtra, Amit Degwekar alias Pradeep, an activist of Sanathan Sanstha in Goa and Manohar Edave, a resident of Vijayapura in Karnataka.
