Since Friday, a photograph showing Mohammed Swali, a college student lying on the laps of five female classmates who are sitting on a wooden bench has been circulating on the social media. One male student is seen sitting behind them, and another boy named Mohammed Riyaz is sitting on their right. Amid allegations of “Love Jihad” Mohammed Riyaz was assaulted by over 10 men on Sunday, as he had been identified from the photograph. He has since been admitted to a private hospital in the city. Read: Riyaz's story: Beaten for being Muslim and in the corner of this photo  Riyaz said that he was "kidnapped" near his house when he was with his friends. The men blindfolded him and took him to a secluded place where they beat him with wooden sticks, kicked him all over including in his genitals. They asked him if he was Muslim and wanted to know why he took a photo with Hindu girls. When they had finished, Riyaz says he somehow managed to call his father Abdul Rahman, and even though he could not tell them where he was, they managed to find him. Asked if Swali had sought protection from the police after what happened to Riyaz, Commissioner of Police S Murugan told The News Minute that Mohammed Swali had not approached the police for protection, rather, he was “absconding”. Asked if Swali too was one of the accused, he said that Swali was not, but added that the boy was not to be found. Tweet Follow @thenewsminute
