It has been announced that Ajith’s next film, tentatively titled as Thala 59, will be a remake of the Bollywood flick Pink. Speculation is rife that Ajith would reprise Amitabh Bachchan’s role from the original.

According to a Times of India report the Hindi film’s creative producer, Shoojit Sicar, has confirmed that the film is being remade in Tamil. “Yes, 'Pink' is being remade in Tamil. I don’t think I will direct it, but the team has said that they will show the film to me once it’s ready. As much as I love what Aniruddha did with Pink, I respect the fact that the makers in Tamil want to have their own interpretation of the story,” he was quoted saying.

Interestingly, this yet-to-be-titled film will be produced by Boney Kapoor, who has been promised a project by Ajith when he worked with Sridevi in English Vinglish.

It was earlier reported that director H Vinoth, who made a splash with the Karthi starrer Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, is likely to team up with Ajith next. It remains to be seen that if this remake will be their next together. More details on the remake are awaited.

Pink, that released in 2016, was a courtroom drama starring Tapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Amitabh Bachchan. This film was directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and received widespread acclaim.

Ajith currently awaits the release of Viswasam which will be his fourth film with director Siva after Veeram, Vedalam and Vivegam. Produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, the project was officially launched last December and actor Nayanthara will be seen playing the female lead. This movie will reunite Nayanthara and Ajith after a gap of five years.

The film’s first-look posters have received good response from Ajith fans. The film has been scheduled to release for Pongal 2019.
