As a surprise treat, the second-look poster of Rajinikanth’s Petta was released on Thursday, close to a month after the film’s motion poster was released.
In the poster’s background is the fiery orange and red of the rising sun lighting up the temple gopurams seen in the distance. Rajinikanth, clad in white dhothi and shirt, the actor sports a rustic look, complete with sacred ash smeared on his forehead, that highlights his grey eyes, and a horseshoe mustache. This look is in stark contrast from his motion-poster that saw him wearing shades and a scarf.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Petta is being directed by Karthik Subbaraj of Pizza fame. The film also stars Bobby Simha, Vijay Sethupathi, Simran, Trisha, Malayalam actor Manikandan R Achari and Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.
The film’s shooting has been progressing in different locations across north India in places like Varanasi, Lucknow and Darjeeling. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the tunes for this gangster action film with Tirru cranking the camera and Vivek Harshan is in charge of the editing.
The rest of the technical crew includes Peter Hein for stunt choreography, Suresh Selvarajan for production designing, Kunal Rajan as sound designer, Niharika Khan, Praveen Raja as costume designers, and Baba Bhaskar and Sheriff for dance choreography. Petta will also require a lot of computer graphics for which Prime Focus has been signed up to take care of its VFX.
Petta is Karthik’s fifth full-length feature. He also shot a portion in Bench Talkies that came out in 2015. The shooting of Petta is happening at a good pace with plans to release it for Pongal next year.
Sun pictures is also busy with Vijay’s Sarkar, the audio launch of which was recently held. Starring Vijay and Keerthy Suresh in the lead, the film is being directed by AR Murugadoss and this marks his third-time collaboration with Vijay. Sarkar is being planned for Diwali this year.
