“Whether I believe (the allegations) or don’t, it doesn’t matter. The issue is why he allowed such a circumstance to be created,” CPI (M) Politbureau member, Pinarayi Vijayan, told The News Minute, speaking on allegations of personal impropriety made against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He was referring to allegations of sexual harassment made by solar-scam-accused Saritha Nair against the CM.

“A person who is occupying the chair of the Chief Minister should never have ties with unsavoury people,” he added.

As for the oft-heard description of himself as a rough, short tempered politician with little public acceptance, he said that this was the result of propaganda against him by rivals and some in the media.

“Some friends in the media who have a particular agenda coin these terms. I am never bothered about such things,” he said.

He added that there was no tension or friction between him and the leader of the Opposition, VS Achuthanandan in the current period, and that any reports to the contrary are only media creations.

“The Party did face some issues with factions earlier, but now we are strong and united.  But some people with vested interests are trying to spread false information, but that will not affect us. We are united and will win this election,” he said
