Telugu film Pelli Choopulu turned out to be a smash hit following which its Tamil remake rights were bagged by the director-producer Gautham Menon. It was announced that Vishnu Vishal and Tammannah would be playing the lead pair with Senthil Veerasamy of Rajathandhiram fame roped in to direct the film.

However, the project, which was titled Pon Ondru Kandein, failed to start owing to financial issues and there was no further news about its development.

After all these months, there is now news that Pelli Choopulu remake has been revived. Sources in the know say that Gautham Menon has sold the remake rights to another production house and that the project is now taking shape.

While we hear that Vishnu Vishal will be playing the lead role, it is not clear if Tammannah and Senthil Veerasamy are still associated with Pon Ondru Kandein. More details about this remake are expected to be out soon.

Pelli Choopulu was a romantic comedy written and directed by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam and produced by Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni under the banners BigBen Cinemas (London) and Dharmapath Creations.

It had Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in the lead roles with Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Abhay Bethiganti, Nandu and Anish Kuruvilla in the supporting roles. The film’s technical crew included Vivek Sagar for music, Nagesh Banell for cinematography and Ravi Teja Girijala for editing.

Pelli Choopulu was not only a commercial success but a critical success as well. It won a host of awards including two National Film Awards for Best Telugu film, and Best Screenplay – Dialogues, two Filmfare Awards, and the SIIMA Award for Best Film. The film was remade in Hindi under the title Mitron and in Malayalam under the title Vijay Superum Pournamiyum.
