Two LDF activists were on Tuesday ordered to pay a fine, of Rs 50,000 each, by the Kerala High Court for damaging public property. The two activists, Sanjay Varma and Manu John, had taken part in a protest against finance minister KM Mani presenting the Budget. The protestors set fire to a police van in Thiruvananthapuram on the Budget day, thus causing a loss of Rs 10 lakh to the state, states a Deccan Chronicle report.  Varma and John are the sixth and seventh accused and have been booked under Section 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the CrPC and sections of Damage to Public Property Act. Both have been given bail on stringent conditions.
