The News Minute| July 18, 2014| 4.40 pm IST Despite uncertainties that are looming around the Kerala state cabinet reshuffle, assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan has sought his party, the Indian National Congress’s permission to resign from his office. Karthikeyan is widely rumoured to be a sure entrant in the cabinet, in the event of a cabinet reshuffle. Speaking to the media, Karthikeyan said that he has sought permission from his party to resign and that the final decision will be taken by his party. Malayalam media reports that the High Command's decision to allow the Speaker to step down was conveyed to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Congress’s Kerala state chief VM Sudheeran and AK Antony, senior party leader. Karthikeyan however has denied speculations that he is resigning for a ministerial post.  The talk about a reshuffle has been doing the rounds for months now, it is widely seen as a plot to make KB Ganesh Kumar, the former Minister for Arts and Culture re-enter the cabinet.
