Chinese technology major OnePlus, which disrupted the premium smartphone segment is now set to disrupt the television market. The company’s OnePlus TV is now being offered as an Android TV joining the smart TV segment. The TV may not run on stock Android but will have the inhouse UI built on the Android OS operating the device.
This appears to be a rethink on the part of the company since the statement put out by it mentions that the “highly awaited ‘OnePlus TV’ will run on Android TV.” The company says this is being done to continue offering the customers premium user experience.
The OnePlus TV may be a product meant exclusively for the Indian market and the features like the Google Assistant, Chromecast built-in, and Google Play will all come preloaded. Customers will be able to find out information like weather updates and control smart home devices using the voice assistant to pass on the commands. You can perform the normal activities like changing channels, getting the TV to play your favourite video and so on.
OnePlus has revealed that they have been working with Google for a very long time exploring the areas they can work together to bring better technologies to their customers. The OnePlus TV with the Android OS is one such effort. There may be more products in future coming out of this collaboration. One area they will work on will be the seamless integration between various OnePlus products.
OnePlus will involve Amazon.in in its marketing efforts with a special ‘Notify Me’ feature available on the ecommerce platform. Subscribers will receive updates from the company on the launch and other details of the OnePlus TV.
