The KDJW Stadium, inside the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, in New Delhi was a full-house on Tuesday night. But not for a sporting event. Thousands of ‘fans’ of the Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus flocked from across India to witness the launch of OnePlus 6T, the ninth smartphone from its stable. Even though the smartphone launched globally a night before, there was no dearth of excitement in the hall as the company unveiled the OnePlus 6T.

What’s new?

After the successful launch of OnePlus 6, the 6T has been launched with some significant design changes. The OnePlus 6T will come with an in-display fingerprint technology, no 3.5mm headphone jack and a water-drop notch design, all a first for the smartphone maker.

OnePlus claims that the in-display fingerprint technology is the fastest in the world, taking just 0.34 seconds to unlock and supported by sophisticated self-learning algorithms.

OnePlus has also improved the camera of the 6.41-inch device with two new features Nightscape, which captures low-light urban environments with improved clarity, less noise, more accurate color reproduction and better dynamic range, and Studio Lighting, a feature that has been fine-tuned to recognize faces and adjust the lighting accordingly to simulate professional lighting.

OnePlus 6T also comes with the new Smart Boost feature, which improves the app cold start speeds by up to 20% by storing data from frequently used apps in the phone’s RAM. 

Specifications

Coming to the specifications of the smartphone, the OnePlus 6T comes with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display at a 19.5:9 aspect ratio for great viewing angles. With minimal bezels and speaker grille too, moved to top of the device. The screen of the OnePlus 6T is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The smartphone has a 3D glass back, made from multiple layers of glass, it includes anti-glare coating and a texturized multilayer film.

The OnePlus 6T provides users with a fast, natural and intuitive way to unlock your device, while benefiting from a large display with minimal bezels.

The OnePlus 6T runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, with 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with 128GB and 256GB ROM variants.

The smartphone will run Android 9 Pie, making it only the second smartphone in India after Google Pixel 3 to receive Pie in India 

The OnePlus 6T is powered by a 3,700 mAh battery, which provides a 20% increase in battery life compared to OnePlus 6, for a full day of power in half an hour.

Camera

The camera hardware sees a combination of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel rea cameras, featuring Optical Image Stabilization and Electronic Image Stabilization, while the front-facing camera is 16 megapixel, with Electronic Image Stabilization.

OnePlus has also improved the HDR and portrait mode images, with more clarity, dynamic range, and edge detection provided by OxygenOS. The OnePlus 6T rear cameras can capture 4K video footage at 60 frames per second, and Super Slow Motion at 1080p and 240fps / 720p and 480fps. Google Lens has also been included as standard in the user interface.

Pricing and availability

The OnePlus 6T will be available in Midnight Black and Mirror Black in three variants and will retail at Rs 37,999 for 6GB+128GB, Rs 41,999 for 8GB+128GB and Rs 45,999 for the 8GB+256GB variant.

OnePlus 6T will be available on Amazon.in in a Preview Sale starting midnight of November 1. From November 2, 2018 onwards, the OnePlus 6T will be available on all online and offline channels including Amazon.in, oneplus.in, Croma stores, Reliance Digital outlets and all OnePlus exclusive offline stores.

The company will also be hosting pop-up events across 8 Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad on 2 November 2018 starting 11:00 am. Users will be able to experience and purchase the powerful and stylish OnePlus 6T at these pop-up stores, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Across the globe, pop-ups will be held in 32 cities including New York, London, Paris, Milan and Beijing.
