The News Minute| September 11, 2014| 9.20 am IST Local heads and members of the Communist Party of Indian (Marxist) in Kannur district on Wednesday blocked the road to a house where a wedding was to take place. Helplessly the family members had to change the wedding venue. The mini lorry that brought food items and the shamiana that was to be set up in front of the house was blocked by local heads of the party, reports the Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama. The incident took place in the Peralassery panchayat, a CPM stronghold. The rivalry between the party and the house owner Narayanan, who is also a Communist party loyalist, dates back to three years over a land dispute. The matter is now in a local court, the judgement of which is yet to come. Since then the Communist party has been harassing the members of the family. However, the harassment reached its peak on Wednesday when the preparations for Narayanan’s son’s wedding were blocked. They family members say that the party men had not given any prior warning that they would take such a step. The road which led to the house was blocked with boulders. The family informed the district police chief and the police reached the spot and removed the blocks. However, as soon as the police left, the party men blocked the road again. The family has changed the venue of the wedding to a nearby auditorium.
