In a special campaign being launched by Ola this Independence Day, you will have an opportunity to ride in cabs driven by retired Indian Army personnel and listen to their stories of valour and heroism.

Cab-aggregator Ola has introduced its ‘Ola Sainiks’ programme on the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day. In the period from August 14-16, the commuter will get an opportunity to be driven by ex-servicemen who have joined Ola as driver-partners for their Ola Share rides across the country.

Ola Share is the aggregator’s cab pooling service.

“Customers opting for Ola Share from August 14 to August 16, 2017, will get an opportunity to ride with ex-servicemen and interact with them during their ride. They can expect to hear some first-hand accounts of the Sainiks’ days in the armed forces and how they continue to contribute to India’s development,” Ola said in a statement.

The company is also pushing its ‘Share’ offering in a big way to combat traffic congestion, by reducing the number of vehicles on the road.

Vishal Kaul, Ola COO said, “I have personally interacted with several Ola Sainiks, ex-servicemen of the country, and they have some really inspiring stories to tell! We are thrilled to launch this initiative to honour their service to the nation, and support them in their fight against congestion and traffic, in their second avatars as Ola Sainiks.”

“With Ola Share, we strive to achieve freedom from congestion that will go a long way in improving the quality of life for every Indian,” he added.

The company statement quoted one such Ola Sainik talking about how vehicular congestion is a huge problem faced across urban areas in the country.

Gurmail Singh, a retired Subedar, who served in Indian Peace Keeping Force, said, “I have served in the army for 30 years and am a proud retired officer. My life’s mission and that of many others like me continues to be serving the nation’s best interests. Congestion and vehicular pollution are major problems plaguing many of our cities.”
