Right from the time fans got to see the first look of Odiyan, the expectation meter has been going up. The magnum opus has Mohanlal playing the title role, Odiyan Manikyan. It is a very challenging role for the actor as his character would be moving from a 30-year-old to 65-year-old.
Revealing a bit about the film, director VS Shrikumar told the Times of India, “There will be five action sequences and five songs - all of which are weaved in as part of the narrative. The action scenes will the highlight. Also, there will be a lot of special effects and we would be taking close to six months for the post production.”
The film’s shooting will commence in August and the team is currently busy with the pre-production work. According to VA Shrikumar, Odiyan’s producer Anthony Perumbavoor is so impressed with the script that he has not set any limits on the budget. Having tremendous faith on Shrikumar and Mohanlal, the producer has decided to shell out any amount that the project may require.
Set in the backdrop of Palakkad, a major portion of the film will be shot there, we hear. Odiyan also has Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. Interestingly, Mohanlal and Prakash Raj had shared the screen space for the Mani Ratnam directorial Iruvar nearly two decades ago and they will be working together after a long gap.
The script for Odiyan is by Harikrishnan who has won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay. To be released next year, Odiyan is a film based on the life of the almost extinct tribe, Odiyans. They were the first 'gangsters' from Kerala and the film would be revolve around their lifestyle.
