The News Minute | September 4, 2014 | 8.00 am ISTKerala's Education Minister Abdu Rabb has been in controversy more than once in the past for refusing to light the 'nilavilakku' or lamp at events. On Wednesday however, Senior BJP leader O Rajagopal took a dig at the state’s education minister, over the lighting of a lamp during an e-literacy event.According to a report by Manorama TV, the e-literacy campaign had invited Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for an event, where mobile phones with internet connectivity were distributed. But in the absence of the chief minister, the organisers wanted Education Minister Abdu Rabb to act as Chief Guest. Knowing well that the minister does not light lamps, the organisers asked BJP leader O Rajagopal to light the lamp. The BJP leader later asked Abdu Rabb the reason for his refusal. He noted it and politely ended his speech saying, 'The minister seems to has some difficulty in lighting lamps. I was happy that I could be of assistance to him. But let me assure him that no danger has befallen anyone by lighting a lamp."
