The News Minute| June 9, 2014|  Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. Governor of Maharashtra- 2004 to 2008 External Affairs Minister of India- 2009- 2012 Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna's political career has spanned over five decades, but it now looks like the 82 year old's political career is coming to an end. The Congress has chosen not to nominate SM Krishna for the Rajya Sabha. Though S M Krishna was reportedly unhappy and registered his protest, the high command stuck to it's decision. Congress spokesperson Rajeev Gowda and BK Hariprasad have been nominated from Karnataka.  Congress President Sonia Gandhi called SM Krishna on the phone and informed him that the decision was taken due to his age factor. The party would like to phase out older leaders and give opportunities to younger leaders. Though SM Krishna is still with the party, he has been quite inactive for quite some months. It was only during the Lok Sabha polls that he had resurfaced for a few days and campaigned for the candidates in Karnataka.
