The Tamil Film Producers’ Council had some restrictions in place for the release of small and big budget movies. This was to ensure that the small budget movies get a chance to have a good run at the box office without having to face competition. But this restriction has been removed for the upcoming Christmas and Pongal holidays.

In a meeting held recently, it was decided that films can hit the marquee during these holidays without adhering to the restrictions announced earlier.

On December 20, the Vijay Sethupathi starrer Seethakathi will be hitting the marquee. Vijay is teaming up with director Balaji Tharaneetharan after the grand success of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kanom a few years ago. Govind Menon is composing the tunes for this flick with Saraskanth TK wielding the camera and R. Govindaraj roped in for editing. Seethakathi is being bankrolled by Sudhan Sundaram, Umesh G, Jayaram and Arun Vaidyanathan under the banner Passion Studios.

December 21 will see a slew of film releases including the Dhanush starrer Maari 2, Kanaa and Silukkuvarpatti Singam. Maari 2 is a Dhanush starrer that is bankrolled by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films. The film is directed by Balaji Mohan. Kanaa on the other hand is a production venture by actor Siva Karthikeyan. He is bankrolling the film under the banner of Siva Karthikeyan Productions for his friend director Arunraja Kamaraj. Kanaa is a sports drama that has Aishwarya Rajesh playing the lead role. Dhibu Ninan Thomas is composing the tunes for this sports drama with Anthony L Rubens taking care of the editing while Dinesh Krishnan is cranking the camera.

Movies slated for release for Pongal 2019 are the Ajith starrer Viswasam, Rajinikanth’s Petta and RJ Balaji’s LKG.
