Selvaraghavan’s horror-thriller Nenjam Marappathillai has been struggling to find a release for many months. Originally scheduled to release last December, the film has been delayed for reasons yet unknown and this has disappointed many who have been looking forward to its release.

The film’s last teaser was extremely well received and it had set the right expectations. Starring Regina Cassandra, Nandita Swetha and SJ Suryah in the titular roles, the film is tipped to be a very realistic horror drama.

Commenting on the delay in release, Selvaraghavan last week tweeted: “Deeply touched by all your queries about release of ‘Nenjam Marappathillai’. Very soon. The release date isn’t in the director’s hands. The producer owns the film and Madan sir knows the best. Thank you for your patience and faith.”

It is rumoured that producer Madan hasn’t settled dues of his last few films, due to which he has been issued a red card by the Producers’ Council, which means he can’t release his film without clearing his debts. In some of his interviews, Selvaraghavan had said Regina’s role will shock audiences. She has also pinned high hopes on the film.

In an Instagram post a few months ago, Regina had written: “I was always asked what my dream role was and I always said I never really had one. However, having said that, Mariam will go down as one of the most amazing characters I've gotten to play. Thanks Selvaraghavan sir for that confidence and the mentoring. It has definitely helped,” she wrote, adding that she was thrilled to be part of this project.
