Nivin Pauly and Sunny Wayne, as part of promoting their upcoming film Kayakulam Kochunni, went on a train journey. The stars boarded Jan Shatabdi train from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam and interacted with those onboard, besides obliging fans with selfies. On this, Sunny Wayne was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “It was a very interesting journey. People were surprised to see Nivin and me. We took selfies with them and spoke to them. It was really a beautiful experience.”

Kayamkulam Kochunni, scheduled for release on August 17, has a positive buzz surrounding it with the pre-release business being good. Sources in film trade circles say that the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi rights along with its audio and overseas rights have been sold out and have fetched its makers around Rs 25 crore. Kayamkulam Kochunni is made on a budget of Rs 40 crore and its producers seem to have recovered more than half the production cost through the pre-release business.

Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film has been written by Bobby and Sanjay. The star cast of Kayamkulam Kochunni includes Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, Priya Anand, Priyanka Thimmesh, Sunny Wayne and Babu Antony. It may be mentioned that Mohanlal will be seen in an extended cameo in this flick.

The film is based on the life of a highwayman who lived in the 19th century in the Central Travancore region. This Robin Hood-style thief stole from the rich to feed the poor. Kochunni died in jail in 1859. A devout Muslim, who prayed five times a day, he developed a dislike for the rich (money leaders and landlords), as he had grown up in abject poverty.

The technical crew of Kayamkulam Kochunni includes Gopi Sunder for scoring the music, with Binod Pradhan, Nirav Shah and Sudheer Palsane handling the camerawork and A Sreekar Prasad for editing. Kayamkulam Kochunni is produced by Gokulam Gopalan under his banner Sree Gokulam Films on a budget of Rs 40 crore. Reports say that the film will be released in over 300 screens throughout Kerala.
