The shooting of the highly anticipated film, Kayamkulam Kochunni has begun. The film, based on the life of the legendary Robin Hood type highwayman, Kayamkulam Kochunni, has Nivin Pauly playing the lead role.

The star cast also includes Sunny Wayne and Babu Anthony playing pivotal roles.

As the script demands that its lead actors Nivin Pauly, Babu Antony, and Sunny Wayne be proficient in the martial art of Kalaripayattu, they are undergoing special training, report sources close to the film unit.

Kayamkulam Kochunni will have Babu Antony playing Thangal, and he will be seen as Kochunni’s mentor. Amala Paul will be playing the female protagonist. Posting a pic on their martial arts workshop, Babu Antony wrote: “Me and Nivin taking a break during a "Kalarippayattu" workshop for the film "Kayamkulam Kocchuni" at Director Roshan Andrews Martial arts School in Cochin, It was very nice of Nivin to reveal that he has been a huge fan of me and he used to keep pictures of mine in his notebooks. It is nice of Roshan Andrews to start martial arts school in Kerala. 24th Sept 2017.”

While Rosshan Andrews will be wielding the megaphone for this venture, it has been scripted by the National Award winning writers Bobby and Sanjay. Reports say that the writers had done extensive research for a couple of years before the director decided to go on to the floors.

Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan will be making his debut in Mollywood with this flick with Kabali fame musician, Santosh Narayanan wielding the music baton. Gokulam Gopalan is bankrolling the project under his banner Sree Gokulam Films.

Nivin Pauly has had two releases – Sakhavu and Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela - so far this year and both the films have turned out to be hits. He also has a number of Malayalam films such as Hey Jude and Moothon in his kitty and a Tamil movie Richie, nearing completion.
