Following the success of the Sudeep starrer Phailwan, director S Krishna has shifted his focus to his next. The film will have Nikhil Kumar playing the lead role and will be bankrolled by A Subaskaran under his banner Lyca Productions. While the shooting for this film will begin early next year, the groundwork for it has begun already.

According to industry sources, the film will be based on a true story but no further details about the film are available currently. We also hear that Nikhil Kumar will be doing a lot of homework and undergoing a total transformation for his role in the film. Besides working on the script, director Krishna is also busy finalising the rest of the star cast and crew.

In Krishna’s last film release Phailwan, Sudeep played a boxer and wrestler. The actor had to undergo a lot of training to learn the nuances of the martial arts. He even flew to Thailand where he underwent rigorous training under the guidance of some experts. Going by the amount of hard work Sudeep had put in for Phailwan, sources in tinsel town say that director Krishna will ensure that Nikhil also undergoes rigorous training in all the aspects that his role would require.

Nikhil’s last film release was Kurukshetra, which was directed by Naganna. A mythological drama based on the epic Mahabharata, Darshan played Duryodhana in this film. Kurukshetra also starred the late star Ambareesh, Arjun Sarja, Sonu Sood, V Ravichandran, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Sneha, Hariprriya, Meghana Raj and P Ravi Shankar in pivotal roles.

Kurukshetra had an impressive technical crew as well. Jayanan Vincent has cranked the camera for this film with Jo Ni Harsha doing the editing. Inspired by the poem Gadhayuddha, penned by the Kannada poet Ranna, the screenplay for the film was written by JK Bharavi.
