One of the first things the new government is likely to do in Sri Lanka is to order an investigation into whether former president Mahinda Rajapaksa attempted to orchestrate a coup to continue in power.

According to an NDTV report, Sri Lankan spokesperson Mangala Samaraweera on Sunday said: “People think it was a peaceful transition. It was anything but. The first thing the new cabinet will investigate is the coup and conspiracy by president Rajapaksa. He stepped down only when the army chief and the police Inspector General refused to go along with him”
