Nayanthara, whose films Aramm, Dora, and Velaikkaran were well received last year, is gearing up for the release of upcoming Tamil thriller Kolamavu Kokila a.k.a Co Co. Directed by debutant Nelson Dilip Kumar, the film is going to be her second release of the year.

In the film, she plays a simple girl who, when pushed into an unexpected situation, has to fight for her own for survival. On Thursday, the makers via announced a poster that the film will hit the screens on August 10 worldwide. This means that Nayanthara and Kamal Haasan, whose Vishwaroopam 2 is also confirmed to release on the same date, will lock horns at the box-office.

The film is rumoured to be inspired from the popular American show Breaking Bad. Apparently, Kolamavu is the colloquial word used in the film for cocaine. It’s also evident from the title poster of the film that the story does deal about drugs.

Clarifying these reports, Nelson said in an interview to Hindustan Times that his film is his own work of fiction. “It’s a story about an ordinary girl in the most unexpected situation and how she fights her way out of it.  We can’t make anything close to Breaking Bad because it’s really wild and we’re not prepared for such things.” The film also stars Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu in important roles.

The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and recently there were reports that the young composer has played a cameo in the film. However, director Nelson subsequently quashed these reports in a few interviews. He went on to add that Anirudh’s music is the soul of the film. “As soon as Anirudh heard the story, he was excited to commence work. He’s taken very special care and worked on the film because he really liked the story,” he said.
