Nayanthara’s socio-political thriller Aramm, which follows one day in the life of district collector Madhivadhani, was one of the sleeper hits of last year. A week after the film’s release, its producer K. Rajesh confirmed that a sequel is in the offing and it will be even more powerful and hard-hitting.  According to latest reports, Aramm 2 is slated to go on the floors from September and it will be directed by Gopi Nainar, who helmed the first part as well. If one can recall the last scene of Aramm, Nayanthara says that she will return soon and if the industry sources are anything to go by, she will be seen playing a politician in the sequel.

“Gopi was supposed to work on another project but he’s been asked to put it on hold and instead work on the script of Aramm 2. Originally, the plan was to make the sequel next year but producer Rajesh felt that the project is best suited in current political climate of the state,” a source said, adding that the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised. Aramm marked the directorial debut of Gopi, who owes his career to Nayanthara and he had said he will always be indebted to her. Apparently, Gopi’s script was turned down by many producers before it caught the attention of Nayanthara, who agreed to do the film in just in the fifth minute of the narration.

At a press meet soon after the release of Aramm, its director said: “I narrated the script to her at 12 pm and by 3 pm I was paid advance and asked to not worry about anything. She told me that it’s now her responsibility to get the film made. Even after she came on board, some vested interests tried to stop the film from taking off. Despite all the setbacks, she didn’t give up on the project and ensured that it got made. She owned the film.”

Nayanthara is currently shooting for Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. She also has Ajith’s Viswasam and a yet-untitled project with Sivakarthikeyan in her kitty. She also awaits the release of her film Kolamavu Kokila.
