The first look poster of Nani’s upcoming film titled Jersey would see the actor in a cricketer’s role. The star tweeted the picture through his Twitter handle on June 15th and it certainly did capture the attention of his fans. In fact, Nani had expressed his desire to act in a sports-based drama like the Aamir Khan starrer Dangal and it looks like his dream has been materialized with Jersey. The first look poster had a jersey hanging in a cupboard with the name Arjun on it along with the cricket gear. Wielding the megaphone for the film will be Gowtam Tinnanuri.

On roping in Nani for the lead role, the director had told in an exclusive interview to the First Post, “It’s a story about a late bloomer who realizes his talent at a certain age and pursues his dream to join the Indian cricket team. It’s a period sports drama and the story takes place between 1986 and 1996. As a subject, I want this story to reach as many people as possible. With his universal appeal, Nani can take this story far and wide.

The shooting of this film will begin this September and Nani will be preparing for the role by undergoing special training in cricket.

The film will be produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments. Sithara Entertainments had bankrolled Naga Chaitanya’s Premam and Venkatesh’s Babu Bangaram which were hits and is currently bankrolling Naga Chaitanya’s Sailaja Reddy Alludu directed by Sudheer Varma.

On the film’s progress, it has been reported that the prep work is currently on. In the meantime, Nani will be completing another multi-starrer in which he shares the screen space with Nagarjuna. Interestingly, Nani made his television debut with the reality show, Big Boss 2 recently. The first season was hosted by his counterpart Jr. NTR.
