Is Nandan Nilekani set to say goodbye to the Congress?

Image Courtesy: Wikipedia CommonsHas he already quit or will he do it soon? This seems to be the question doing the rounds about Infosys co-founder and former Aadhar Chairman Nandan Nilekani’s membership in the Congress party.Nilekani had joined the Congress in 2014 and had unsuccessfully contested from the Bangalore South constituency. While some reports claim that Nilekani has already quit the Congress, a report in TOI said that he will quit shortly, focusing on a nationwide education initiative – EkStep.A senior Congress leader told The News Minute that the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) was not aware if Nilekani has quit, but he would not be ‘surprised if that happened’. “Nilekani was never into active politics even after he joined. It would be no surprise if he did quit.”Other than the education initiative, there is also buzz in the political circles that Nilekani may act as advisor to Rahul Gandhi.A few months ago, Karnataka Congress leaders had hinted to the media that CM Siddharamaiah may accommodate Nilekani in his cabinet and create a portfolio which would also make him a cabinet minister. That however did not happen, and Nilekani has never played any active role in the party.
