The News Minute| June 22, 2014| 2.40 pm ISTAfter reports that Tamil Nadu has declared ownership of three dams in Kerala, an anti-Kerala campaign has begun in Palakkad. The posters that have come up in Chittoor taluk of Palakkad district, some believe is part of a to merge Chittoor with Tamil Nadu. Palakkad is a district that lies in the Tamil Nadu- Kerala border.A notice printed under the letterhead of “Save Chittoor Taluk Forum” has been raising the issue of ownership of dams. The notice criticizes Kerala and applauds Tamil Nadu for gaining ownership of the three dams. Reports in Kerala media now suggest that the 'Naam Thamizhar' group was behind the campaign. The notice circulated in Chittoor narrates the events through which Kerala lost the ownership of dams. It further goes to praise the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu saying that while the Tamil Nadu government builds infrastructural facilities for its citizens, the Kerala government conspired and helped those who exploited natural resources. The letter also says that senior police officials are accomplices of the quarry companies and sand mining agents. The “Forum” claims that since no such instances have been reported from Tamil Nadu, Chittoor should merge with Tamil Nadu. It also says that the Adivasi and the Dalit community, who constitute a majority of the population in Chittoor along with the “Tamil” minorities, have lost their trust in the Kerala government.
